Elmhurst Princesses

The Elmhurst Princess program is an Indian Princess program run by dads from Elmhurst and the surrounding area.  Membership is limited to dads and their daughters as we seek to promote strong bonds between fathers and daughters through shared activities such as campouts, monthly meetings, and community outings.  Participants include fathers and their daughters attending K-5 grades.

The Indian Princess program is different from scouting, sports teams and other activities as it is limited to fathers and daughters spending time together. Simply put, our members join the program because father and daughter want to spend more time together.

From a daughter's perspective there is an opportunity to have a wide circle of friends, to get a sense of identity and belonging to a group, and to spend time with their fathers doing things both fathers like and daughters like. It is like having a dozen sisters and uncles as older girls take on leadership roles helping the little ones have fun.

From a dad perspective there is time to get away from the busy day to day life and spend time quality time with his daughter(s).

The program is organized as follows:

  • Each father / daughter pair belongs to a tribe
  • Each tribe is within the Salt Creek Nation
  • There is a group of dads (chiefs) who run the Nation and oversee the program

Activities are centered on Nation events, which are large events that everyone is invited to, and Tribe events that are specific events that members of a tribe organize for themselves.  There is no pressure or obligation to participate in anything: fathers and daughters can participate in as little or as much as they like.

Nation Events include three camp outs a year (YMCA camps sleeping in cabins, not tents), overnight stay at a Chicago Museum, roller skating, bowling, holiday party, and a boat trip.   Our Fall campout is cornered around an Induction ceremony for new members, our Winter campout typically has some skiing / sledding activity involved, and our Spring campout concludes with a graduation ceremony for graduating daughters and fathers.

Tribal events and activities may include a monthly meeting with a craft activity, outing, planning for Tribal Events, attending Nation Events, or giving back to our community through various volunteer programs.
